La Porte Independent School District

Joseph Stewart is in his fifth year coaching Water Polo at La Porte High School and has served as head coach for the past four years. He is a member of USA Water Polo and has been with LPISD since February 2021. As head coach, Coach Stewart established a Season and Career record book and made many changes to the program.

Coach Stewart is also in his fifth year as head coach of La Porte High School's Swimming and Diving program, bringing 30+ years of swimming and coaching experience. His coaching background includes roles with YMCA, summer leagues, private high schools, and US Masters Swimming. As a student-athlete, he competed on the varsity team all four years at Deer Park High School, swam with Deer Park Seals Summer League, and some time with Fleet Swim Club. His current professional memberships include the American Swim Coaches Association - Level 2 (ASCA), the Texas High School Coaches Association (THSCA), the Texas Interscholastic Swimming Coaches Association (TISCA), and United States Master Swimming - Level 3 (USMS). He is also certified by the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) as a swim official. Since 2022, Coach Stewart has broken five LPHS swimming records; four of those records were over 40 years old.

Coach Stewart has had two athletes go on to play in NCAA Division I (Water Polo) and Division III (Swimming) programs.

Coach Stewart earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Sports Medicine from Sam Houston State University through the College of Human Sciences and is currently enrolled at Texas A&M University for a Master's degree in Sport Management.
