On the final game of the District 10 schedule, La Porte and Baytown Sterling kept everyone on the edge of their seats. This game had 5 lead changes and 4 ties, as La Porte and Sterling have been building a bit of a rivalry over the past few years, and this one definitely didn't disappoint.
Sophomore
Lucas Prigmore got things rolling with a goal, assisted by Junior
Jaime Reyes. About a minute later, Junior
Jake Gazaw made it 2-0 with an assist from
Lucas Prigmore. Sterling finally got on the board just 10 seconds later, narrowing the gap. Then,
Lucas Prigmore responded quickly to push the lead to 3-1, with
Jake Gazaw providing the assist. Sterling scored again at the end of the first quarter, bringing them within one. La Porte goalie Sophomore
Douglas Robb had 3 saves so far. La Porte was up 3-2.
The second quarter started off slow for La Porte, and Sterling scored two goals in the first 2 minutes to take the lead at 3-4. It wasn't until about 3:41 left before halftime that
Jake Gazaw found the net, with Junior
Ean Lopez getting the assist. Jake also recorded a steal, and
Douglas Robb added 3 more saves. The score was tied up at 4.
Sterling came out strong in the third quarter, scoring twice in the first 2 minutes to lead 4-6. La Porte responded with two goals from
Ean Lopez and
Jaime Reyes, tying it again at 6. Then,
Lucas Prigmore scored two quick goals, giving La Porte an 8-6 lead.
Cole Bailey and
Douglas Robb assisted on those. But with less than a minute left in the quarter, Sterling scored two more, tying it up again at 8.
Ean Lopez made a huge defensive play with 18 seconds left to stop Sterling from scoring in the final moments.
Douglas Robb had 4 more saves in the third quarter.
The excitement built as we headed into the fourth quarter, with both teams tied at 8 and 7 minutes remaining. Sterling scored twice in the first 40 seconds to go up 10-8, but La Porte fought back with a 4-0 run over the next 2 minutes. Throughout all this action,
Douglas Robb stood tall with 5 saves to keep Sterling from scoring. Sterling managed one more goal, pulling within one. With 8 seconds left, Sterling called a timeout for one last play.
Douglas Robb again made a clutch save, blocking the shot that could have tied the game. He finished with 16 saves.
