Bulldogs Battle to 5th Place Finish at the Prestigious McDonald’s Texas Invitational

The La Porte Bulldogs put together an impressive showing this weekend, finishing 5th overall in the highly competitive McDonald's Texas Invitational, one of the premier high school basketball tournaments in the state.

The Bulldogs opened the tournament in dominant fashion, winning their pool with a 2–0 record. They set the tone early with a commanding 95–48 victory over Pasadena, showcasing explosive offense and relentless defensive pressure. Later that evening, La Porte faced a gritty and physical Lake Creek Montgomery squad. In a back-and-forth battle, the Bulldogs maintained their composure down the stretch and pulled out a nail-biting 65–63 win, securing their spot in the coveted Gold Bracket.

Day two opened with a matchup against Clear Brook. La Porte came out firing, knocking down their first three consecutive three-point attempts, but the hot start faded as the offense cooled off. Despite strong effort and intensity, the Bulldogs fell 55–44, dropping them into the consolation side of the bracket.

Refusing to let the loss define their weekend, the Bulldogs bounced back in a big way against Katy Taylor. La Porte controlled the pace and attacked the Mustangs on both ends, earning an impressive 78–64 victory and punching their ticket to the Consolation Championship against Goose Creek Memorial.

In the final game of the weekend, the Bulldogs delivered a true team effort. They led from start to finish, weathering every GCM run and executing in key moments. Behind disciplined defense, timely scoring, and a unified team performance, La Porte closed out the tournament with a hard-fought 62–59 win, securing a 4–1 overall record and a proud 5th-place finish.

A strong statement early in the season, the Bulldogs proved they can compete with some of the best programs in Texas—and they walked away from the Invitational with momentum, confidence, and a clear identity: tough, resilient, and relentless.
