On the final game of the District 10 schedule, there was no disappointment in the Lady Dawgs' effort against Baytown Sterling. Some players became lettermen for the first time, some repeated as lettermen, records were broken, and big career milestones were hit.
In the first quarter, Freshman
Addilynn Morara got things going for La Porte with a 1-0 lead off an assist from Sophomore
Natalie Chavez. The Lady Dawgs kept the momentum going and scored 8 more goals with 4 more assists.
Natalie Chavez scored 3 goals, making her the only player in LPHS Water Polo history, boys or girls, to hit 100 career goals!
Addilynn Morara added two more goals, while Freshman
Nellie Ortiz scored 2 and Senior
Isabella Huerta scored 1. These 9 goals were assisted by
Natalie Chavez, who added 2 more assists. Junior
Adilyn Smith and
Addilynn Morara each also scored 1 goal.
Natalie Chavez also had 4 steals, and
Addilynn Morara had 2 steals in the quarter. La Porte Sophomore goalie
Kimberly Manzo made 5 saves. Score at the end of the first quarter: La Porte 9, Baytown Sterling 1.
In the second quarter, La Porte slowed things down a bit, scoring just twice. One goal was by Senior
Alexandra Pilkerton and Freshman
Nellie Ortiz. This was Nellie's third goal of the game which was is a new career high for her. The only assist coming from
Addilynn Morara.
Alexandra Pilkerton and
Addilynn Morara also registered a steal each — earning them water polo letterman status for the first time! La Porte led at halftime, 11-6.
In the second half, La Porte continued to play strong defense, holding Baytown to just one goal while scoring 4 goals on 2 assists and racking up 6 steals.
Adilyn Smith and
Alexandra Pilkerton each had 3 assists;
Natalie Chavez scored twice, and
Adilyn Smith and
Alexandra Pilkerton each added one goal. Natalie, Addilynn, and Freshman
Skylir Taylor kept stealing the ball multiple times during the quarter. Skylir tallied 3 steals, while Natalie had 1 and Addilynn had 2.
Kimberly Manzo made her fifth save of the game. Score now 15-7, La Porte leading.
In the fourth quarter, the Lady Dawgs looked to secure second place in District 10. They scored 3 more times, with 2 assists and 4 steals.
Isabella Huerta recorded one goal, while
Addilynn Morara scored 2 more, giving her a career-high 5 goals in one game. Natalie and Nellie each added one assist, and
Adilyn Smith,
Addilynn Morara, and
Nellie Ortiz each recorded one steal. Natalie also added 2 more steals, setting a single-game record with 7 steals. Goalkeeper
Kimberly Manzo made 2 more saves, bringing her total to 8 for the game. La Porte wins, 18-9.
