Lady Dawgs Win Second Straight Opening Day win!

The Lady Dawgs Water Polo team commenced their 2025 season with an away game against Caesar E. Chavez High School. The beginning of the match was challenging for the Lady Dawgs, with La Porte securing an early goal from sophomore Natalie Chavez, resulting in a 1-4 score at the end of the first quarter. Sophomore Kimberly Manzo contributed defensively with four saves. In the second quarter, Coach Stewart successfully motivated the Lady Dawgs, resulting in a strong performance. La Porte initiated a scoring streak, shutting out the Lobos and ultimately scoring six times. Junior Adilyn Smith contributed defensively with two steals, while Freshman Skylir Taylor added one steal. These turnovers led to three assists—two by Sophomore goalkeeper Kimberly Manzo and one by Freshman Addilynn Morara—and five goals by Sophomore Natalie Chavez. Additionally, Senior Amelie Mastan scored a goal assisted by Natalie Chavez. The Lady Dawgs concluded the second quarter on a 6-0 run, leading 7-4 at halftime. Kimberly Manzo also recorded three additional saves during this period. At the start of the second half, Chavez Lobos began to mount a comeback, scoring three goals. La Porte responded with two goals in the quarter, both scored by Natalie Chavez, which marked her seventh and eighth goals of the game. Additionally, Natalie contributed with a defensive block, while goalkeeper Kimberly Manzo made four more saves. The score at the end of the third quarter was 9-7 in favor of La Porte. The final quarter delivered significant excitement during the last six minutes. Freshman Addilynn Morara scored her first high school goal, assisted by Freshman Skylir Taylor. Skylir also recorded a steal that led to Freshman Nellie Ortiz assisting Natalie Chavez for her ninth goal of the game. Junior Adilyn Smith scored her first goal of the season to increase the lead to 12-7. Addilynn Morara then scored her second goal of the game. Goalkeeper Kimberly Manzo made three additional saves, bringing her total to 14 for the game. Final score is La Porte 13-8
